Two more years for Toshack

12 April 2012

Wales coach John Toshack has agreed a two-year extension to his contract.

It means the 59-year-old is committeed to the role until the end of Wales' 2012 European Championship campaign.

Wales play Poland in a friendly next week - their final game before the make-or-break home matches in World Cup qualifying group four against Finland and Germany, on March 28 and April 1 respectively.

The deal is no surprise, with FAW chiefs having revealed before Christmas they expected to agree the extension.

Low-key talks had been ongoing for several months, with Toshack's existing five-year deal due to end when the World Cup qualifiers for South Africa 2010 conclude in October.

Wales currently sit third in World Cup qualifying Group Four, four points behind leaders Germany after two wins and two defeats.

The FAW have wanted to extend Toshack's contract for some time, and the only doubt has been over whether the former Liverpool striker wished to continue.

But Toshack has now told the FAW that he would like to carry on for another two years, taking his term up to the Euro 2012 tournament in Poland and Ukraine.
