Former England batsman Marcus Trescothick has signed a new three-year contract with Somerset.

Trescothick has committed his future to the club until 2012, with an option for a further year.

The left-hander, who will captain the county next season and celebrates his 34th birthday on Christmas Day, told the club's official website: "I am absolutely delighted to have signed a new contract with Somerset. My aim is to play for as long as I can, at least until I am 40 and beyond, if I am fit enough."
