Toure's confidence is suffering, concedes Arsene

Arsene Wenger has admitted that Kolo Toure is suffering from a loss of confidence.

Arsenal suffered their 3-1 defeat away to Bayern Munich without Sol Campbell - who is a major doubt for the return leg in a fortnight - due to a long-term ankle injury.

Arsenal manager Wenger said: "Pascal Cygan did well but Sol Campbell, with his experience, makes everybody better.

"Kolo has a bit of a doubt in his mind at the moment. He has lost a little bit of his confidence and we have to pump him up again. I feel that is more of a problem at the moment than the absence of Sol.

"We were very, very disappointed with the quality of our performance."

Franz Beckenbauer, now president of the club he represented with such distinction, believes the tie is still open following Kolo Toure's late goal.

"That could be a very important goal," said Beckenbauer. "Before it, Bayern had the chance for a fourth but failed to score. But even without that, with a 3-0 lead they would, I am sure, have gone through."

There was more bad news for Wenger yesterday. Two key players could miss the same three domestic matches after striker Dennis Bergkamp's appeal regarding his sending-off against Sheffield United failed.

Jose Antonio Reyes is set to join him if the Spain striker is handed a three-match ban when he appears before the FA tomorrow for his part in the same ugly melee that led to Bergkamp's red card.
