Tottenham consider Neuer as back-up plan for Kameni deal

13 April 2012

Spurs are keeping tabs on Schalke goalkeeper Manuel Neuer. The club have made Espanyol's Carlos Kameni their number one target but are lining up Neuer as a back-up plan.

Meanwhile Ledley King believes overturning the 1-0 first-leg deficit at Eindhoven will be one of Spurs' hardest tasks of the season.

The centre-back said: "I know we have the character and ability to stay in the competition, although there is no doubt we will have to dig deep."

King was rested at the weekend but is likely to return at centre-back alongside Jonathan Woodgate, who received a knock to his foot against West Ham but was fit to travel.

Jermaine Jenas is also back in the squad after a twisted ankle in the first leg of the last-16 clash against PSV, but Younes Kaboul (knee) and Ricardo Rocha (groin) are out.

Alan Hutton is ineligible, while Gareth Bale (foot) and Benoit Assou-Ekotto (knee) remain long-term absentees.

NEXT FIVE GAMES: Tonight: PSV (a, 7.45pm) (UEFA Last 16 L2); Sunday: Man City (a); 19 Mar: Chelsea (h); 22 Mar: Portsmouth (h); 30 Mar: Newcastle (h).
