Title is not tainted - Hamilton

12 April 2012

Lewis Hamilton has rejected Max Mosley's claim that winning this year's Formula One world title will be tainted by the spy scandal.

FIA president Mosley claimed Hamilton would not feel comfortable should he go on to become the first rookie champion in the sport's history, and also insisted there would forever be a question mark over the championship as he believes McLaren "effectively cheated".

After seeing his lead over McLaren rival Fernando Alonso cut to two points after Sunday's Belgian Grand Prix, Hamilton said: "I don't particularly have anything to say to, or about, Max Mosley. But I feel this is a worthy world title."

He added: "We have all worked hard this year and the way I feel, the team have done absolutely nothing wrong.

"I have taken the opportunity I have been given, and just done as good a job as I could with it. I don't see why people will say, if I win, it is a tainted championship."

Hamilton also had a beef with Alonso, in particular after a first corner clash at the La Source hairpin that ultimately determined the finishing order

Side by side into the sharp right-hander, Alonso veered across the track, forcing Hamilton to run wide, proving he is desperate to win his third successive title.

A stinging Hamilton said: "I feel for someone always complaining about people doing unfair manoeuvres and everyone wanting to be fair, and as someone I look up to, he has gone and swiped me and pushed me as wide as he could.

"I was just really lucky there was a run-off area so I could take that."
