Thorpe to see a specialist

13 April 2012

Graham Thorpe is to see a specialist on Monday to determine whether his hand injury will cause a further spell on the sidelines.

Thorpe only returned to England's side for the Lord's Test after a six-week lay-off with calf trouble.

He now faces the possibility of a further injury absence after sustaining a blow from a Brett Lee bouncer while batting.

Thorpe failed to take the field this morning as Australia took 3.1 overs to reach their victory target of 14 and complete an eight-wicket triumph and went for a precautionary X-ray instead, which proved inconclusive.

He will now be sent to a London specialist tomorrow afternoon.

"It would be a big disappointment if Graham was out," conceded coach Duncan Fletcher.

"He's really played well for us, he looked good in the first innings and we need him in the side because he's a very experienced and top class player."

Nasser Hussain, who broke his left little finger in the opening Test defeat at Edgbaston, will be given until next weekend to recuperate before having a fitness check and once that is determined, the selectors can make plans for Trent Bridge.
