Thompson sidelined for Saints

Northampton hooker Steve Thompson could be ruled out for more than a month after damaging a calf in Saturday's Guinness Premiership match with Gloucester.

Thompson is likely to be out for between four to six weeks, while captain Bruce Reihana will see a specialist after suffering an injury to his right knee.

Saints head coach Paul Grayson explained: "The injuries to Steve and Bruce appear to be serious ones and put the squad under pressure, but they also give a chance for others to step up."
