Thierry is top for London

14 April 2012

Thierry Henry's dazzling displays for Arsenal are rewarded today as he is named This is London's London Footballer of the Year 2004.

The Arsenal striker topped our poll with 35% of the vote after we asked you to email us the name of the footballer who had impressed you the most during the past 12 months.

Henry, whose goals fired Arsenal to the Premiership title in 2004 and played a crucial part in their 49-game unbeaten run, beat Chelsea duo John Terry (26%) and Frank Lampard (14%) in the poll. Spurs striker Jermain Defore came fourth with 13% of votes cast.

On receiving his award, Henry said: "Thank you to everybody who voted for me as This is London London Footballer of the Year 2004.

"Arsenal's success last season and during the unbeaten run was a team effort and I am proud to be a part of that. With the quality of players there are in London clubs, I'm delighted to have topped 2004's poll."

Crystal Palace forward Andy Johnson came fifth in our poll, ahead of Tottenham defender Ledley King and Chelsea winger Arjen Robben, who finished sixth and seventh respectively.
