1987:

1988: Accused of violence by wife, actress Robin Givens, who sues for divorce. Breaks right hand in street brawl with former opponent Mitch Green.

1989: Divorce granted in Dominican Republic.

1990: Knocked out by James 'Buster' Douglas in Tokyo to lose world heavyweight title. Sued by Phyllis Polaner, former aide to Givens, for sexual assault and harassment.

1991: Admits paternity of eight-month-old girl born to Kimberly Scarborough.

1992: Jailed for six years. for rape of Miss Black America contestant Desiree Washington, 18, in his hotel room in 1991.

1993: Fails high school diploma exam which would have shortened his sentence.

1995: Released after serving half of jail term.

1996: Stopped by Evander Holyfield, losing WBA and WBC world titles he had regained in 1995.

1997: Fined £2million after being disqualified for biting off part of Holyfield's ear in rematch.

1999: Jailed for a year for assaulting two motorists. Freed after four months. Threatens to quit ring after his comeback fight is declared a no-contest following a knee injury to opponent Orlin Norris

2000: Home Secretary Jack Straw overturns ban on Tyson entering Britain to fight Julius Francis over rape conviction. Fined £125,000 by the British Boxing Board of Control for misconduct during fight with Lou Savarese in Glasgow.
