Terrorism fear for Danes

14 April 2012

Denmark have risked expulsion from the Davis Cup by refusing to play in Algeria next month due to security fears.

The Danes are due to go there in a Europe/Africa Zone group two firstround match over 9-11 April but their national tennis federation have asked the International Tennis Federation to switch the tie to another location in Europe.

"As responsible team leaders we cannot condone sending our young people down there," Danish tennis federation chairman Finn Kalhauge said. "The Davis Cup is important for the players, but it is still only a sport."

Unless another venue is found Algeria will be handed a walkover.
