Wimbledon 2016 seeds: Novak Djokovic and Serena Williams top seeds; Andy Murray number two

Andy Murray was today confirmed as second seed for Wimbledon, ensuring he is kept away from Novak Djokovic in Friday’s draw.

The seedings are based on the world rankings but also take into account the performance of the players on grass-courts.

Murray, champion at Wimbledon in 2013, showed his prowess on that surface last week, winning the Queen’s Club title for a record fifth time as he defeated Milos Raonic in the final.

The top three seeds mirror the world rankings with Djokovic top and Roger Federer in third but world No4 Rafael Nadal will miss the Grand Slam, which starts on Monday, due to a wrist injury.

In the women’s tournament, Johanna Konta is the first British female to be seeded at Wimbledon since Jo Durie in 1984. Konta is seeded 17th.

Serena Williams heads the draw while the second seed is Garbine Muguruza, who won the French Open last month.
