Roger Federer is not only on the greatest tennis players of all time he is, on this evidence, one of the nicest guys to boot.

Signing autographs for fans after his fourth round US Open victory over John Isner, the Swiss star sensed potential danger as the gathered crowd pressed against the barriers.

Noticing a young boy at the front of the pack, Federer urged the crowds back while security plucked the child from the melee and onto the court.

The World No.2 then signed a novelty tennis ball and a cap for the boy after checking he was okay.
