There were worrying scenes at the Miami Open on Thursday as Britain’s Jack Draper collapsed on court during a match.

The teenager appeared to be suffering from heat exhaustion in Florida during the first set of his first-round meeting with Mikhail Kukushkin.

A struggling Draper, 19, called for the doctor and carried on after having his heart-rate checked and blood pressure taken, but then fell to the floor while defending set point against Kazakhstan’s world no105.

Draper received immediate medical attention, an ice pack was applied to his neck and thankfully he was able to get to his feet and walk off Court 2 on the grounds of Hard Rock Stadium.

The 2018 Wimbledon boys’ singles runner-up was making his ATP Tour debut in Miami, but had to retire from the match as Kukushkin was awarded the victory.

He will face now Russia’s Aslan Karatsev in the second round.
