Emma Raducanu a doubt for French Open after wrist injury

British No.1 will fall out of WTA’s top 100 next week

Emma Raducanu is a major doubt for next month’s French Open following her latest injury setback.

The 20-year-old had been due to play her opening-round match at the Madrid Open on Wednesday but was a late withdrawal just hours before after her right wrist injury again flared up.

Raducanu cut a disconsolate figure in her press conference just 24 hours earlier hinting there might be an issue before announcing the news in the Spanish capital the following day.

The British No1, who will fall out of the world’s top 100 on Monday when the WTA rankings are revised, has been beset by injuries over the past year.

But the wrist injury, which has continually reoccurred, is of the greatest concern.

The extent of the latest injury is unclear, with surgery an option to rectify an issue she and her team are struggling to manage.

Raducanu is scheduled to play just one warm-up tournament on clay ahead of the French Open at the Italian Open, where she pulled out a year ago with a back injury.

But her appearance both there and at Roland Garros are now a major doubt with her latest wrist complaint.
