Andy Murray has no idea when he might return to action after suffering a freak groin injury in the build-up to the Miami Open.

Murray woke up in pain and unable to walk on Tuesday, forcing him to pull out of his first-round match against Lloyd Harris.

Following the latest injury setback, the severity of which is currently unknown, the world No1 said he had no idea when he might return to competitive action.

“I don’t really know that exactly yet,” he said, with doubts now potentially cast over his participation in the clay-court season. “I will have to see once I’ve had all the investigations and stuff done just to check and see what the issue potentially is.

“We all know it’s not muscular because I have no strength deficit in all of the tests and everything that I am doing with the physios. It’s more like a tissue problem.

“I’ll just need to see what the results come back with and then speak with my team and try and come up with a plan. I really just want to be on the court competing. I really can’t be bothered doing another eight or 10 weeks of rehab.”

It is the latest issue for Murray in his long-term return from hip surgery. The three-time Grand Slam champion was forced to miss the Australian Open after contracting Covid but had flown to Florida for the US swing after the birth of his fourth child.

And he said: “It’s hard work and now I am finding it harder to get motivated to do all the rehab and everything if I’m not going to be able to compete in the biggest events.

“That is why this one was like, f***ing hell, just give me a break for this one event so that I can compete against these guys at a big tournament and see what I am still able to do.”
