Tendulkar hit by ball-tampering claims

India's Sachin Tendulkar today appeared before match referee Mike Denness' hearing into alleged ball-tampering during South Africa's innings in the second Test at Port Elizabeth.

The record-breaking batsman spoke to Denness about an incident on the third day of the match yesterday.

An occasional medium-pacer, he bowled four overs in the day - but it has not yet been disclosed when the alleged offence might have been committed.

Tendulkar, the batting bedrock of an Indian side set to play a home series against Nasser Hussain's England next month, was shocked by the claims.

He told Indian newspaper The Telegraph last night: "After having played international cricket for 12 years, I do know what is right and what is wrong."
