Tel: It's business as usual

Terry Venables today denied suggestions he had cancelled television interviews amid speculation that his days at Elland Road are numbered.

Leeds entertain Malaga in the third round of the UEFA Cup tonight and many believe the second leg tie will be Venables's last match in charge.

Sources close to the Leeds board have revealed the former England manager is not expected to last beyond the weekend. Leeds's next game is at Bolton on Monday, which would give them time to consider a successor.

Venables, though, has denied cancelling several interviews scheduled for tomorrow.

A club spokesman said: "We have checked with Terry and he has not cancelled any media appointments."

Venables is unlikely to resign, but a desperate run of results that has seen Leeds lose their last five Premiership home games could lead to his dismissal.

As well as the dire results, the paucity of Leeds's performances are known to have worried the directors, leading to suggestions that Venables has lost the confidence of his players.

Leeds fans chanted "Terry, Terry, time to go," after the club's 1-0 defeat away to Fulham on Saturday.

Venables's very public row with French midfielder Olivier Dacourt echoes the dying days of his predecessor David O'Leary, whose public criticism of his players played a crucial part in his sacking last June.
