Taylor targeted for key UEFA role

12 April 2012

UEFA have confirmed they want Scottish FA chief executive David Taylor as the new general secretary of European football's governing body.

Negotiations are to continue between Taylor and FIFA president Michel Platini about the Scot replacing Lars-Christer Olsson, who was sacked last week.

Meanwhile, FA chairman Geoff Thompson has become the third most powerful man in European football after being elected as UEFA's second vice-president.

UEFA said in a statement: "The UEFA executive committee has mandated the UEFA president and treasurer to continue with their contract negotiations with David Taylor of Scotland to replace Mr Lars-Christer Olsson."
