Tahir dents Notts hopes

13 April 2012

Pakistan leg-spinner Imran Tahir has turned the County Championship race on its head.

Nottinghamshire's stroll to the title looked a formality at Trent Bridge until Tahir struck four times in 13 overs.

That helped to restrict the leaders to a first-innings lead of eight runs and Hampshire were due to resume today 94 ahead with nine wickets in hand.

Hampshire have been unbeaten since signing Tahir in July and he could have a big hand to play if the pitch deteriorates.

That would leave the door open for Durham, provided they claim one more batting point and then go on to beat Kent.
