Surrey off to a losing start

Surrey began the defence of their totesport league title with a seven-wicket defeat by Glamorgan at The Oval.

At one stage they were 36 for seven. Ian Salisbury's unbeaten 59 saved face but Glamorgan made light work of reaching the victory target of 147.

Kent beat Gloucestershire by one run thanks to pace bowler Mohammad Sami, who took six wickets for 20.
