Colombian singer Shakira and US star Jennifer Lopez delighted NFL fans with a sparkling performance at the Super Bowl half-time show in Miami.

In a performance which heavily leaned on both singers’ Latin American roots, the pair were joined on stage by Puerto Rican rapper Bad Bunny and Colombian star J Balvin, while Lopez and a children’s choir sang a section of Bruce Springsteen’s hit ‘Born In The USA’ while draped in a Puerto Rican flag.

Shakira had started the show with a literal bang, performing a selection of her hits including She Wolf and Whenever, Wherever whilst fireworks exploded from the roof of the Hard Rock Stadium, before displaying her vast musical talents by playing the guitar.

The 43-year-old also performed a cover of Cardi B’s ‘I Like It’, as well as crowd favourites such as ‘Hips Don’t Lie’ and ‘Waka Waka’, which was the official song of the 2010 Fifa World Cup in South Africa.

Lopez, meanwhile, burst onto the stage with a compilation of her best-known tracks, including ‘Jenny From The Block’, ‘ Waiting For Tonight’ and ‘Love Don’t Cost A Thing’, before the pair closed with ‘Let’s Get Loud’.

Initial impressions were that the show had been extremely well-received, bringing much-welcomed glamour after a widely-criticised performance from Maroon 5 a year ago.

Before the game, US Star Demi Lovato had performed the Star Spangled Banner , while players from both teams paid tribute to the late Kobe Bryant, the basketball great who died in a helicopter crash exactly a week ago.

The actual game did not disappoint fans either, with the Kansas City Chiefs coming from behind in the fourth quarter to score 21 unanswered points on their way to victory over the San Francisco 49ers.
