Strauss: Tresco can make his Marc

12 April 2012

Andrew Strauss has backed opening partner Marcus Trescothick to come through his personal crisis and re-establish himself in England's Test and one-day sides.

Trescothick stunned England earlier this week by ruling himself out of contention for next month's Champions Trophy with a stress-related illness. It has led to doubts over Trescothick's participation in the intensity of this winter's Ashes series, but Strauss has come out strongly in support of his opening partner.

"Australia is going to be a big test for all of us and it's going to be a big test for Tres as well," said Strauss. "He hasn't got to the stage he's at in his career without being able to overcome tests and I see no reason to see why he can't do it again."
