Former Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard believes that England international Jordan Henderson is the ideal man to replace him as skipper at Anfield next season.
The veteran midfielder ended his 17-year career with the Merseysiders in May and his exit has left a leadership void in Brendan Rodgers' side, who slumped to a disappointing sixth place finish in the Premier League last season.
However, Henderson is expected to be unveiled as Gerrard's successor later this week and the 34-year-old has given the decision his blessing.
"Jordan's been loyal to the club by signing a new deal and I wish him well.
"Raheem (Sterling) and Jordan are at different ends of the scale. Jordan's so professional, he's a winner, a great lad," " Gerrard told BBC Sport.
Meanwhile, although Rodgers has quashed comparisons between Henderson and Gerrard, the latter can see similarities between himself and the Sunderland-born 25-year-old.

"I don't think there's a more fitting player to take that armband off me. I see a lot of my game in Jordan's game and what I like about him is he's very humble," Gerrard insisted.
Henderson joined the club from Sunderland for a reported fee of £20 million in 2011 but initially struggled to reproduce his best form in front of the Kop.
However, he has developed into one of the side's leading performers and signed a new five-year contract worth £100,00-a-week in April.
Gerrard, meanwhile, is in line to make his debut for the LA Galaxy this weekend as the Hollywood outfit host Club America in a friendly on Saturday.
