Steady Dier stays well ahead

13 April 2012

Germany's Tobias Dier, whose first-round 60 equalled the lowest score on the European Tour, maintained his grip on the TNT Dutch Open at Hilversum today.

Dier carded 10 birdies yesterday and probably thought he had used up all his luck as he resumed with 11 straight pars this morning. But birdies at the 12th, 16th and 18th gave him a second-round 67 and a 13-under-par, halfway total of 127, keeping him comfortably ahead of the closing pack.

"Today was very steady, I'm not making many mistakes but I just didn't hole that many putts," said Dier.

England's Jamie Spence is three shots behind Dier after a six-under par 64 today.

Padraig Harrington and Gary Evans, who both missed out on a play-off for The Open by one shot at Muirfield, were joint third, seven shots adrift of Dier.
