St Benedict's and Whitgift meet in cup clash

Winners: St Benedict's 1st XV
13 April 2012

St Benedict's and Whitgift face a cup showdown this month.

The two strongest teams in London schools rugby over the past decade meet for a place in the Daily Mail last 16 after thumping round six victories.

Bennies' form earns them the Standard's December Team of the Month award, in conjunction with schoolsrugby.co.uk. Before the snow, they dispensed with St Paul's and RGS Colchester in the cup and narrowly beat John Fisher.

St Benedict's coach, Nick Guise, said: "The squad is extremely fit and highly mobile - we play to a very high skill level and tempo. They have scored some superb tries this season!"

Skipper Jonah Holmes is making a name with Wasps, and Charlie Jewers and Jamie Harries have both represented the South-east this season, said Mr Guise. "But there are some really decent players that need a mention like Saul Gerald, tight prop, Matt Dever inside centre and Ross Mc Intosh, fly-half."

FrontUp, the rugby leisurewear suppliers, provide vouchers for the winning school each month.
