Spurs blow as Zamora is injured

Tottenham's injury crisis deepened today when new striker Bobby Zamora was forced to pull out of the England Under-21 squad.

Zamora withdrew from the team to face Croatia at Upton Park tomorrow night after injuring an abductor muscle in his thigh during his substitute appearance in the defeat at Birmingham on Saturday.

The injury appears to be similar to that suffered by Freddie Kanoute, another new signing.

Now Zamora, who showed some lively touches when he replaced the ineffective Helder Postiga against Birmingham, is likely to be ruled out of Saturday’s home clash with Leeds.

His setback is another in a long line of problems for Glenn Hoddle. The Spurs manager is already without the services of defenders Ledley King and Dean Richards, and midfielders Darren Anderton, Toda and Christian Ziege.

Meanwhile, Gary Doherty could complete a move to First Division Cardiff within the next week.
