Tom Daley scrapes through to 10m diving final

10 August 2012

Britain’s poster boy diver Tom Daley scraped through the preliminary round of the men’s individual event this evening placing 15 out of 18 competitors.

Languishing in 25th place just before his final dive, Daley pulled off a score of 84.15 on his last attempt with a reverse 3 ½ somersault tuck.

He ended the session with a total score of 448.45.

Daley’s GB teammate and synchronised 10m platform partner, Pete Waterfield, failed to qualify, finishing in 23rd place.

Although Daley has done enough at this stage, hopes of a medal in tomorrow’s final have been dampened with a somewhat lacklustre show.

Favourite, China’s Qui Bo, topped the qualifying group with a score of 563.70, while major rival German Sanchez of Mexico placed fifth with 495.85.
