It is day six here at the Tokyo Olympic Games and for once, our early morning update doesn’t bring you news of more British medals.

There’s still been plenty going on, though. Here’s what you’ve missed overnight…

No fairytale ending for Glover

There was another near-miss for the British rowing team as Imogen Grant and Emily Craig missed out on a medal by 0.01 seconds in the lightweight double sculls.

Wilby misses medal

Britain’s James Wilby missed out on a medal in the pool as he could only finish fifth in the final of the men’s 200m breaststroke.

There was better news, however, for Duncan Scott and Luke Greenbank, who reached the finals of the 100m freestyle and 200m backstroke, respectively, after winning their semis.

China deny Titmus, Ledecky gold

Elsewhere in the pool, US star Caeleb Dressel won his first individual Olympic title to go with three relay golds as he set a new Olympic record in the men’s 100m freestyle.

Kendricks tests positive for Covid

The American took bronze in Rio and was expected to be the closest challenger to world record holder Armand Duplantis.

Meanwhile, members of Australia’s athletics team have gone into isolation after one of their athletes was deemed a close contact of Kendricks.

Hockey men safely through

Britain’s men’s hockey team booked their place in the quarter-finals with a game to spare after a 2-2 draw with the Netherlands.

The Brits failed to get out of the pool stage in Rio five years ago but are now one win away from a guaranteed shot at a medal.
