Andy Murray will begin the defence of his Olympic title against No35 seed Viktor Troicki but will get a further 24 hours to prepare having been selected as Team GB’s flag bearer.

As defending champion, Murray would have been expected to play on the opening day but the world No2 will be given further time to prepare along with of Rafael Nadal and Caroline Wozniacki, who will carry the respective flags of Spain and Denmark.

Troicki is perhaps best known for his rant at a Wimbledon umpire following his Wimbledon exit. The Serb branded Edward James “the worst umpire ever” for ruling a serve out in the final stages of his five-set defeat to Albert Ramos-Vinolas.

Murray has won all seven of his contests against Troicki, the most recent being at Queen’s Club last year.

In the doubles, Murray begins his quest for gold with brother Jamie against Brazilian duo Thomaz Bellucci and Andre Sa.

Of the other Brits in action, Kyle Edmund faces Australia’s Jordan Thompson, while Jo Konta and Heather Watson take on Stephanie Vogt and Shuai Peng respectively. Konta and Watson will also team up in the doubles against Serbian duo Jelena Jankovic and Aleksandra Krunic.
