Rowing has been postponed for the day in Rio due to high winds.

Team GB's Heather Stanning and Helen Glover are aiming to secure a place in the women's pair final while Jack Beaumont, Sam Townsend, Peter Lambert and Angus Groom will also have to wait to compete in the men’s quadruple sculls final.

The Lagoa morning session was initially postponed but the decision has now been taken to call off the entire event until tomorrow, with a new schedule expected to be announced soon.

"No racing will take place today," a media officer announced.

Organisers and team managers were meeting to discuss a revised schedule for Thursday.

The first of the rowing finals, the women's quadruple sculls and the men's quadruple sculls, had been due to be contested on Wednesday.

The rowing competition has been dogged by bad weather. Races on Sunday were postponed for a day when winds roiled the waters of the lagoon.

Mist shrouded the mountains that flank the lagoon on Wednesday morning and rain fell steadily as winds again whipped up the water.
