Britain's hopes rest on them for Olympic gold next year - and our champions show they are in shape for the biggest challenge of their lives.

Five of our top athletes gearing up for gold at London 2012 are shown here as you have never seen them before, in a stunning photoshoot for ES magazine.

Beach volleyball player Denise Johns told how she and her partner, Lucy Boulton, played their "best volleyball ever at the Olympic test event in the summer."

Boulton added: "It was great playing in the heart of London it was a taster of what it's going to be like next year."

Road and track cyclist Lizzie Armitstead said next year's event over a hilly course was "going to be tough".

Also pictured are gymnast Beth Tweddle and judo hopeful Ashley McKenzie.
Fashion director Nicky Yates said: "They were phenomenal and just incredibly sculpted."
