On the record: David Weir

Sport: Athletics (wheelchair racing)

Record holder? Weir equalled Baroness Tanni-Grey Thompson’s record of six London Marathon victories against the best-ever field assembled for the men’s wheelchair race yesterday.

He said afterwards: “This is my favourite win ever because the field was so strong. I was quite emotional when I crossed the line as it could be my last London Marathon for a while.”

Off the record: The Croydon-based athlete revealed before the start of the race that his girlfriend Emily was expecting the couple’s second child in October. They already have a son, Mason, aged eight months.

Chance of an Paralympic record? Weir has said he is in the form of his life at present but has set himself the target of a solitary gold at the Paralympics.

On paper, he should do much better. He won three gold medals at last year’s IPC Athletics World Championships and could go for four in London: the 800m, 1500m, 5,000m and marathon.
