Lowe’s outside tip

1 August 2012

Jemma Lowe is happy to be in an outside lane after qualifying slowest for tonight’s final of the 200m butterfly.

The 22-year-old, who in the past has tended to go out too fast, reined herself in over the first 50m for a semi-final swim that she described as “timed perfectly”. Lowe, who swam 2min 7.37sec, said: “My coach told me to hold a little bit back to save energy for the final. I can give it everything I’ve got.

“The outside lane is perfect for me. It is a bit more relaxed.”

Lowe is the only Briton in the final following Ellen Gandy’s surprise exit from yesterday’s heats.
