Dai Greene, one of Britain’s brightest hopes for a track and field Olympic gold medal, said the Games were the “opportunity of a lifetime for London”.

The 400m hurdles world champion said the capital needed to put on the “best possible show”.

He said: “It’s very exciting, the countdown. It’s been six years and now it’s just days to go.

“People should see it’s the opportunity of a lifetime for London. We’ll never get it again.”

Greene, 25, recently managed to get extra tickets for his family after posting an appeal on Twitter.

He said: “London should put on the best possible show, from the top right through to the bottom, embrace the whole vibe that’s going to be hitting us.

“I’m going to make sure every day counts and I train as best I can, so that when 100 days becomes one I’m ready to go.”
