Andy Murray is set to be named as Great Britain’s flag-bearer at the Opening Ceremony of the Rio Olympics.

The 29-year-old, who won his second Wimbledon title last month, is expected to beat bookmakers favourite Nicola Adams to the role with cyclist Bradley Wiggins having withdrawn himself from contention.

Murray won men’s singles gold at the London 2012 Games and also claimed silver alongside Laura Robson in the mixed doubles.

A panel of British Olympic Association experts selected Murray, who will lead out a British team of 366 competitors.

Many of those athletes have yet to arrive in Brazil and others based at the training camp in Belo Horizonte are not expected to travel to the Maracana for the Opening Ceremony.

The grand opening is due to start at 23:15 UK time, and you can follow the whole event live on Standard Sport.

Murray becomes the second consecutive Scottish athlete to lead out Team GB, with Chris Hoy having been chosen for the London games. The world number two is also the first tennis player to bear the Union Flag at the ceremony.
