SPL television channel talks collapse

13 April 2012

The Scottish Premier League's plans to launch its own television channel collapsed today.

The SPL had hoped to set up its own station after rejecting Sky's offer to broadcast its games live.

But the 12 top-flight clubs failed to gain the 11-1 majority required for the channel to go-ahead after Celtic and Rangers pulled the plug on the deal.

Celtic and Rangers said their decision is based on an "incompleteness of information available and the high level of risk".

SPL chairman Lex Gold said: "I am disappointed we have not been able to take forward the proposals for SPL TV."
