Spartak step up Rebrov hunt

Sergei Rebrov's Tottenham future was again under scrutiny today after Spartak Moscow confirmed their interest in the unhappy striker.

The club's 27-year-old record £11 million buy has already admitted he would welcome a move to the Russian champions when the transfer window opens in January.

And now the Moscow club have admitted holding talks with Spurs over a transfer.

Rebrov does not appear to play any part in manager Glenn Hoddle's first-team plans, and the arrival of Robbie Keane from Leeds has still further pushed the Ukraine international out of the picture.

Spartak's technical director Alexander Elensky claimed that talks were under way with Spurs, but added that a move was far from being finalised.

He said: "We're having talks, but Rebrov has had no practice and we don't know how fit he is. There are a lot of questions to be answered."

Spurs may use Spartak's interest in Rebrov to ask about a player heralded the 'Russian Michael Owen'. Spartak, recently thrashed 5-0 by Liverpool in the Champions League, are resigned to losing teenager Dmitri Sychev - and see Rebrov as Sychev's replacement.

Meanwhile, Stephen Clemence has set his sights on a return to reserve-team action against West Ham tomorrow night, saying: "I've done several days' training and feel sharp."

And former Spurs star David Ginola has accepted an invitation to play in Thursday's tribute match against DC United. The French favourite will line up with Glenn Hoddle, Jurgen Klinsmann, Paul Gascoigne and Chris Waddle.
