Snooker hit by new crisis

14 April 2012

Snooker has been plunged into a new crisis after the game's commercial management arm, World Snooker Enterprises, had their contract terminated by the game's governing body.

The move comes less than a year after WSE were appointed following a highprofile struggle for control of commercial rights. The decision comes at a time when the game is seeking new sponsors for tournaments previously backed by tobacco companies.

The board of the World Professional Billiards and Snooker Association sent a letter to members advising them of the split. In it the WPBSA directors said: "With legal advice, it was our view that the interests of the sport would be best served if the contract was terminated."
