Great Britain secured their passage out of the Davis Cup wilderness in Glasgow on Saturday - and captain Leon Smith is confident Andy Murray will be part of the team when they return to Europe/Africa Zone Group I next year.

Victory for Colin Fleming and Ross Hutchins in the doubles rubber gave Smith's side an unassailable 3-0 lead against a poor Hungary team after singles wins for Murray and James Ward on Friday, ending a two-year stay in the third tier of the competition.

Smith said: "In terms of winning matches, we need Andy. He makes a pivotal difference but you've still got to respect his schedule because he's going deep in every slam. We'll speak next year and see how it fits in but he's really enjoyed it, he's been a great part of it and he loves Davis Cup. The signs are positive that he wants to play next year."

Fleming and Hutchins have formed a good partnership on the ATP World Tour and arrived at Braehead Arena fresh from reaching the quarter-finals of the US Open, their second last-eight appearance at a grand slam after also making that stage at Wimbledon.

Their opponents, Attila Balazs and Kornel Bardoczky, were huge underdogs and, although they gave a spirited performance, one break of serve in each set was enough for Fleming and Hutchins to secure a 6-3 6-4 6-4 victory.

The pair even celebrated their final break of serve in the fifth game of the third set with a chest bump in the manner of the Bryan brothers.

Fleming said: "It was the first time we've done it in a match. We went bowling in Glasgow the other night and we were doing it, I think people wanted to beat us up! It's just good fun and it engages the crowd. It was a nice moment."

It was a big day for Hutchins, who was back in the team for the first time in two years. His record before Saturday read played four, lost four, including a five-set defeat against Ukraine with Fleming at Braehead Arena in March 2009.

The Londoner said: "This is my favourite thing to do in tennis. I love being out there, I love playing as part of a team sport. We had a tough match here a few years ago so to play again with Colin was great."
