Smith in hunt for three Chinese

Alan Smith will take time off from Crystal Palace's preparations for their Worthington Cup semi-final clash against Liverpool by flying to Italy in a bid to sign three Chinese players.

China's national side are in Italy and play a friendly against Lazio tomorrow.

Smith is hoping to tie up a deal for Li Ming, Zhang E Nhua and former Palace defender Sun Jihai.

Smith has been tracking all three with the aid of Palace's Fan Zhiyi who is also China's captain, but faces competition from Newcastle for Sun Jihai.
