Shoguns can't keep up with Garvey

Marcel Garvey's dazzling hat-trick on his home Premiership debut sparked Gloucester to a 45-18 win over Bristol - and guaranteed the 19-year-old local boy instant cult status at Kingsholm.

The Gloucester-born wing, whose efforts went a long way towards returning the club to the top of the table, said: 'I live just around the corner but hopefully I'll still get a bit of peace. I haven't even really practised my autograph!'

The home side looked unsettled in the opening exchanges - perhaps troubled by speculation about financial problems at the club - but, after a try by Bristol wing Brendon Daniel, they rallied around the commanding back-row figures of Jake Boer and Junior Paramore, who both touched down, as did Ludovic Mercier.

Bristol were resilient but limited in attack. Captain Garath Archer scored a deserved try but the visitors were blown away by 19 points in the last 12 minutes, leaving them bottom of the table.
