Shoaib may be fastest ever

Shoaib Akhtar could have bowled the fastest ball of all time in Pakistan's World Cup victory over Namibia yesterday.

His 98.8mph delivery is the fastest recorded by modern equipment, though Jeff Thomson may have bowled at more than 100mph in the 1970s.

Doubts surround the Australian's feat as it was measured by freeze-frame photography.
