Sehwag hits double ton to save India

13 April 2012

Virender Sehwag hammered a magnificent 201 not out as India were dismissed for 329 on the stroke of lunch on the second day of the Second Test against Sri Lanka in Galle.

Sehwag's runs came off only 231 balls and included 22 fours and four sixes. He carried his bat in an innings lasting 348 minutes.

But India fell apart following Sehwag's opening stand of 167 with Gautam Gambhir and, as expected, the spinners did the damage. Ajantha Mendis claimed six for 117.

Meanwhile, former India batsman Ashok Mankad has died in Mumbai at the age of 61.

Mankad played in 22 Tests between 1969-78. Son of Vinoo Mankad, one of India's great all-rounders, his best score of 97 came as a makeshift opener against Australia in 1969.
