Saviola leads landslide win

13 April 2012

Barcelona striker Javier Saviola scored a hat-trick as Argentina thrashed Ecuador 6-1 in the Copa America in Peru.

Saviola completed his treble in a 15-minute second-half spell. Kily Gonzalez had put Argentina ahead from the penalty spot in the fourth minute. Andres D'Alessandro and Luis Gonzalez were also on target late on to complete the rout for Argentina, who had Manchester United new boy Gabriel Heinze at the heart of their defence.

Old Trafford team-mate Diego Forlan wasted several good chances as Uruguay drew 2-2 with Mexico.

Forlan had missed a couple of opportunities before Uruguay finally went ahead five minutes before the break through Carlos Bueno. But Mexico equalised in first-half injury time. TONIGHT: Costa Rica v Paraguay (live on Sky Sports 1, 11.30pm), Brazil v Chile (live on Sky Sports 1, 1.45am).
