Sarries stop the London rot

Saracens prevented London's four Zurich Premiership clubs from suffering a complete weekend whitewash with their 16-10 win over newcomers Worcester but head coach Rod Kafer was far from satisfied.

"The dressing room is like a morgue," said Kafer after Saracens pulled back from a 10-8 half-time setback at Vicarage Road to win a dire match with tries from Paul Bailey and Dan Scarbrough and two penalties from Thomas Castaignede, who recovered from a nagging hamstring complaint to start the game.

Saracens are now the best placed London club at fifth in the table. Kafer said: "Last season that was the type of game we would have lost but this season, although we are happy with four points, we are not satisfied with the performance."

Reigning champions London Wasps went down at home 33-30 to Sale whose last minute 45-metre dropped goal by England fly-half contender Charlie Hodgson was the key to victory.

Wasps will learn today just how long they will be without England full-back Josh Lewsey who broke his right wrist but was able to play on. Wasps fear that Lewsey will be out for six weeks which means he will not restart until November when England have three Tests against Canada, South Africa, and Australia.

Wasps' coach Warren Gatland has warned his squad of problems ahead now that they are without a win and in eighth place in the table. He said:"We need a couple of results - starting at Leeds next Sunday - or we'll find ourselves in mid-table." London Irish were overhauled 23-16 at Gloucester where back row forward Kieran Dawson had to come off after taking a ball full in the face. But he will be fit to play in the home match against Leicester next Sunday.

Harlequins, crushed 45-13 at the Stoop by Northampton for a second successive defeat, could be without England centre Will Greenwood at Newcastle next Sunday.

Greenwood came off against Northampton when he banged his head on the ground scoring a try and has a further test today.
