Ryder Cup trio are one off the pace

Defending champion Padraig Harrington and Ryder Cup team-mates David Howell and Miguel Angel Jimenez made their presence felt from the start of the Omega Hong Kong Open today.

All three came in with five-under-par opening rounds of 65 to stand one shot behind pacesetter Adam Groom, of Australia. Ian Poulter, another member of Europe's victorious team, had to settle for a level-par 70.

Phillip Price was joint second after the first round of the US Tour qualifying school in California. The Welshman had four birdies in a row from the 11th for a five-under-par 67, one stroke behind American Scott Gump.

Bob Estes shot a nine-under-par 63 to lead after the first round of the Australian PGA at Coolum, Queensland.
