European Ryder Cup captain Thomas Bjorn has been handed an injury scare after Paul Casey withdrew from the BMW Championship with a back injury.

The Englishman, who was named as a wildcard in Bjorn's team last night, withdrew from the FedEx Cup play-off event after rain delayed the final round until Monday morning, with the PGA Tour hoping to get an entire round in despite the adverse conditions.

Casey, comfortably inside the top 30 in the FedEx Cup rankings meaning he'll make the Tour Championships in just under two weeks time, is set to appear at his first Ryder Cup for a decade in France later this month.

The Englishman had rejoined the European Tour in 2017 in order to be eligible for the team and, despite falling just short of the automatic spots, was always likely to make the 12-man team.

He was named alongside Henrik Stenson, Ian Poulter and Sergio Garcia as the wildcards.

Meanwhile, some of Casey's Ryder Cup teammates took some time out in rainy Philadelphia to prank call captain Bjorn from a BMW, with Rory McIlroy calling the Dane to request cryotherapy chambers for the entire team in France.

The severity of Casey's injury is not yet clear, the Ryder Cup begins on September 28 at Le Golf National just outside Paris.
