Greg Rusedski hit top form as he beat Spain's Albert Montanes 7-6, 6-4 to reach the second round of the RCA Championships.

The 14th seed did not face a break point while serving 11 aces.

Rusedski said: "I felt like I was serving very well throughout the match. It was nice to get the win. I would like to play Lleyton Hewitt in the third round. That would be a big test because he's the best hard court player in the world."

British No 3 Martin Lee lost 6-4, 4-6, 6-3 to veteran Michael Chang in the Legg Mason Classic in Washington.

Anna Kournikova (above) reached the second round of the Canadian Open in Montreal with a 6-3, 6-1 win over qualifier Saori Obata. Despite a shaky service game in the first set, the 21-year-old Russian, ranked 40th in the world, easily disposed of her 24-year-old Japanese opponent in only 45 minutes.

Kournikova will play Spanish qualifier Virginia Ruano Pascual next.
