Rusedski knocked out

14 April 2012

Greg Rusedski's return to form was curtailed by Jarkko Nieminen as the British number three was beaten in the second round of the Pilot Pen tournament in New Haven.

Although the Finn only completed a narrow victory by the margin of 7-6 (7-2) 6-4, it was his ability to convert more break points than Rusedski which enabled him to move into the third round.

Rusedski was also let down by his inability to win points on his service game.

Neither player lost serve in the first set, Nieminen easily won the tie break, then broke Rusedski twice in the second set, including the decisive game.

It was the 32-year-old's eighth defeat in nine matches.
