CONGRATULATIONS if you were one of the runners who finished yesterday’s Virgin Money London Marathon. You might be feeling very sore today – and will be for the next week.

Now the most important thing to do is to rest up and receive the adulation of your friends and family for a job well done.

One of the ways to get rid of muscle stiffness, particularly the pain in your legs when you walk down stairs, can be by continuing to ensure that that you keep drinking enough water throughout the day.

As with training, it is important to keep the right balance between maintaining healthy habits and not overstretching yourself.

Virgin Money London Marathon will act as a springboard to maintain the healthy lifestyle that running 26 miles has given you. Even if you never run another marathon, mental and physical vitality can be maintained by drinking water.

As a reminder that drinking water is as important for runners completing a marathon as it is for commuters, the Canada Water station was renamed Buxton Water station for marathon day. This groundbreaking partnership with TFL celebrated the marathon and raised awareness of the importance of drinking water especially while on the go.

You don’t have to be a long-distance runner to enjoy the benefits of Buxton Water.

For those runners who are suffering today, our suggestion would be to supplement your rehydration with a soak in a hot bath for 10-15 minutes and have a light stretch afterwards.

Finally, why not treat yourself to a light massage which will also help loosen your muscles? Then you can start the process of deciding whether to do it all again next year.

And whatever you do, remember that Buxton Water is #withyoualltheway
